Grounding, or Earthing, is a technique used to realign the bodies energy, or chakra. Your body has a natural flow of energy that cycles through your body from your head to your toes and back again. When a person gets stressed, anxious, upset, etc. the bodies energy can become blocked or disrupted, resulting in unexplained emotional episodes of some kind (depression, outburts, etc.). Grounding allows the body to naturally release the tension or emotion it has been holding.
Grounding is simply allowing yourself, and your children, to play outside barefoot in the dirt, and/or on rocks. The physical connection to the earth gently realigns the bodies energy bringing peace and calmness to the person. Another form of grounding is gardening.
In such cases where one cannot get out and get their toes dirty, stones or rocks can be used, because they carry the earths energy and act the same way upon the body. Warmed balsalt rocks, seen above, have been used for centuries in massage to help soothe and relax tired muscles. They are placed on the feet to help ground a person, or settle a restless/tired/anxious spirit.
You don’t have to purchase balsat rocks to experience this, holding a rocks, especially ones that call to your child or yourself, can do the same thing. When my daughters were little, they used to pick a stone out of a pile I kept in the car, and slip it into the jeans before school started. When they were anxious, they would run the stone. The simple act of rubbing the stone would help calm their anxiety, and because it was mine, it brought another layer of peace to them.
