This was the first recipe I made when I first started studying herbs. This is still our families go to every spring and winter. It is high in Vitamin C and antibacterial properties. It is soothing, refreshing, and helps thin the thick mucus colds and flus bring.
This recipe is from Vintage Remedies:
8 limes, juiced
4 sprigs of thyme
1 cup organic sugar (If you use sucanat, add 1/4c more. Honey is a possible substitute as well.)
4 cups of water
In a small saucepan over medium heat bring 2 cupsof water, sugar, and thyme to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Remove from.heat and cool. Remove thyme sprigs.
In a pitcher, mix lime juice and 2 cups of water, and simple sugar together. Adjust sweetness, if needed.
Pour over ice. You can garnish with a slice of lime and a spring of thyme.
This limeade can stay in the fridge for up to 5 days before you start to notice a change in its taste. If your brute aren’t fast drinkers, consider turning them into popsicles or ice cubes!
If you use sucanat the fresh green color of the limes and thyme may look a bit more muddled. This is okay.
